The Pokémon Company has confirmed the next stop in the Mega Evolution block, and it is a fiery one. Phantasmal Flames launches worldwide on Friday 14 November 2025, bringing Mega Charizard X ex into the spotlight alongside a lean but packed expansion.

Mega Charizard X Takes Centre Stage

As tradition dictates, Charizard once again headlines the block’s second main set, following in the footsteps of Flashfire, Burning Shadows, Darkness Ablaze and Obsidian Flames. This time it is the blue flamed Mega Charizard X ex, boasting a massive 360 HP and the devastating Inferno X attack, which hits for 90 damage per Fire Energy discarded. True to Mega mechanics, it is powerful but risky. If Mega Charizard is knocked out, opponents claim three Prize Cards.

What’s Inside the Set

Phantasmal Flames is based on Japan’s Inferno X expansion and the Mega Gengar ex and Mega Diancie ex decks. Together, they form one of the smallest English sets in recent memory, with just 94 cards before secret rares. Once the chase cards are added, the total climbs to around 130 cards, making it the smallest standard release since Sun & Moon: Crimson Invasion back in 2017.

Players and collectors can look forward to:

• 6 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex: Charizard X, Gengar, Diancie, Lopunny, Heracross and Sharpedo

• 4 Pokémon ex

• 13 Illustration Rare Pokémon

• 17 Ultra Rares featuring Mega Evolution Pokémon, Trainers and Energy

• Five Special Illustration Rares starring Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporters

• 10 Trainer cards

On top of that, the Elite Trainer Box for this set will include an exclusive Illustration Rare Charcadet promo.

The Mega Charizard X ex Ultra Premium Collection

Launching the same day as the expansion, the Ultra Premium Collection is built for serious Charizard fans. Inside, collectors will find:

• Two foil promos: Mega Charizard X ex and Oricorio ex

• 18 booster packs

• Charizard themed accessories: a playmat, deck box and 65 sleeves decorated with Mega Charizard’s iconic blue flames

• Metal coin, damage counter dice and a TCG Live code card

Where to Buy

Since Phantasmal Flames is a standard set, it will be widely available at launch. In the UK, you will find it at Pokémon Center, Magic Madhouse, Wayland Games and Amazon. Preorders are expected to open very soon.

With a tight card list, gorgeous Illustration Rares and one of the most intimidating Charizard cards ever printed, Phantasmal Flames is shaping up to be a must have set for players and collectors alike. Whether you are hunting for Mega Evolutions, filling your binder or just want that stunning Charizard playmat, 14 November is a date to circle in your calendar.
